Orbital Presentation Requirements (Check for redundancy)

  • Be sure that the mission overview is rock solid as it sets the tone for the rest of the program
  • In the current design section, start with the system design (in fact you can call that section "Systems"). In addition to the spec and block diagram, have the students have 2-3 slides on the concept of operations. For instance, what does a day in the life of TJSat look like. A diagram or even a timeline would help. Again, this gets everyone on the same page and avoids questions later on.
  • Spacecraft Subsystem overview. Recommend the following order, as makes it flow better: Structure, C&DH, Telecom, Power
  • Break testing into its own top-level section and call it Integration and Test
  • I&T should also talk about the facilities you have at school for assembly of the satellite
  • Rename Ground Station into "Mission Ops", as it covers more than just the ground station
  • I'm not sure what the Science and Instrumentation section is presenting? Is this another payload? What is the C&DH listed there? Is that the main C&DH? If so, that portion should go up as spacecraft subsystem, and the top-level section maybe is just the payload
  • Critical Issues and Future work. I've seen these both summarized at the end, or at the end of each subsection. I personally find that having both at the end of each subsection is best as it allows the relevant parties to answer any questions. So I would have in each section a "Risks and Critical Issues" chart and a "Future Work Chart". Then perhaps in the CDR Conclusions chart I would simply summarize the most important.
  • I'd leave out finances for this review, focus on the technical, since you have plenty already!
